All in all, it was an incredible experience.
I was picked up early in the morning right in front of my apartment. The driver was extremely punctual, actually a little early, but I was given plenty of time and never felt rushed. We then headed towards Cancún. I was picked up in Playa del Carmen, and along the way we collected the other participants. Everyone was very friendly, and the atmosphere was great from the start.We were well taken care of throughout the entire trip. Breakfast, juices, and water were provided, and the staff made sure everyone was comfortable from beginning to end.Once we arrived at the harbor, there was an option to buy rash guards or rent a wetsuit, although neither was mandatory. I had brought all my own equipment, but for those who needed it, snorkeling gear and fins were provided on the boat.Even the boat ride itself was exciting. We spotted several sea turtles along the way, and the water was absolutely beautiful. Captain Heiler was in a great mood and we were so happy to have an experienced captain. Our guide, Suly , was fantastic and created such a great vibe throughout the trip. He shared lots of interesting information, answered every question, and made sure everyone was taken care of throughout the day.We were incredibly lucky and even saw dolphins! That was definitely one of the highlights before we reached the whale shark area.When we arrived, instead of stopping where several other boats were gathered, we continued a little farther so we could enjoy a less crowded area. Soon after, we were able to enter the water in pairs. Since I was traveling alone, I was often in the water one-on-one with the guide, which made the experience even more special.Swimming alongside these enormous animals was simply breathtaking. It is something I will never forget. There were also manta rays in the area, so we had the chance to swim not only with whale sharks but also with mantas. If a whale shark swam off, you could choose to jump in and swim with a nearby manta ray instead.I was extremely happy with the entire experience.Afterward, we headed to Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres. I’m vegan, and the team made sure there was food available for me as well. If you let them know in advance, they are happy to accommodate dietary preferences, which can sometimes be difficult on tours.Before reaching Playa Norte, we also did a snorkeling session over the reef, where we saw countless colorful fish. It was absolutely stunning.At the end of the day, I returned home incredibly happy and grateful for such an unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone considering swimming with whale sharks.
